Was planning to go into town this morning, but starting last night the sky opened up and it has been pouring ever since. I shouldn't be too surprised; it is a rainforest, after all.
For safety reasons I decided to check the forecast and it looks like rain all week, though today is labeled as a proper thunderstorm. I can make do with some drizzle but I'll wait for the worst of it to pass so I don't get caught up by some flash flood or downed debris.
Brought a rain poncho and my otter-wax infused hat, and walking in the rain can be nice :D
So, I'll shoot for trekking out tomorrow or Thursday instead; I have plenty of rations up here for at least a couple weeks.
Last night I was started awake by some giant bug buzzing around frantically. Was the size of a golf ball and had a lot of mass- I think it knocked itself out flying into a wall. I was panicking a bit and picked it up with tissue and threw it in the toilet.
Ha, jungle life. Hopefully my fear of the creepy crawlies will dull while I'm up here.
Besides all that, today is another day of chill; more yoga and meditating and reading and napping and watching the rain and river. Kind of Zen, in a privileged Westerner in a foreign land kind of way.
Anyway, I unfortunately still remember that there's an election today. The last news I got before going dark was the death of Sean Connery- I wonder if anything of import has happened in the days since.
Of course, new things happen every day, every hour. It's too much. Hopefully while I'm up here I'll learn to be more disciplined with my consumption once I return.
With that said, a big motivator for getting away was being able to turn off the 'Trump Show' for a few months, and put some distance between me and what's sure to be a chaotic election and aftermath.
But not everyone can get away. And some had the courage to stay and fight. So, please stay safe, y'all.
